Attack Operations (Counterforce)

Attack operations prevent launch of theater missiles by attacking all elements of the overall enemy system, including such actions as destroying launch platforms, support facilities, reconnaissance, intelligence, surveillance and target acquisition platforms, command and control nodes, and missile stocks. Attack  operations can be executed by space, air, ground, maritime, and special operations forces. Attack operations are considered one of the four pillars of TMD capability. (JCS J-38 CONOPS)
